Over 20 species of Eyebright are recorded for Ireland and Britain.
They are very similar, frequently hybridise and require expert identification to distinguish between.

General characteristics:
Flowering time: June-September. Annual.

Leafy spikes of white / mauve-white / lilac flowers, yellow blotch, purple/black streaks.
Leaves usually opposite, more/less oval, deep-toothed, hairy/hairless. Leaf-like bracts. Short, more/less branched. A semi-parasitic plant.

Found throughout Ireland, locally frequent. Native.
