Flowering:May-August, fruiting through winter. Evergreen tree or shrub. Native.

The small white flowers with 4 petals are followed by clusters of non-edible red berries. Leaves are a shiny dark green and have spiny edges, though the upper leaves are often without spines. Height: 3-15m.

Very common throughout Ireland in hedges, woods and on roadsides
