Flowering April - May. Deciduous. Introduced.

Clusters of yellowish-green flowers appearing before the leaves. Fruit with widely separated wings. Large leaves with 5-7 pointed, few-toothed lobes. Leaf-stalk contains a milky sap. Smooth or slightly ridged pale brown-grey bark. Large spreading tree, to 30m.

Often planted in amentity areas, occasionally found naturalised in woods and hedgerows.
