Flowering June - July. Perennial, floating aquatic. Native.

Solitary, whitish flowers without a perianth but it rarely flowers and when it does the flowers are minute and easily overlooked. Plants usually +/- opaque, flat on both sides, obovate and asymetrical with 3-5 veins and a single long root.

Widespread, very common in damp or wet habitats, slow-moving or still water in ponds, lakes and ditches. Easily spreads on the feet of birds.
