Flowering May - September. Annual. Native.

One of two subspecies of Viola tricolor.
The flower colour can be variable, usually bluish-mauve, purplish or purplish-yellow, and the petals are longer than the sepals. Branched, +/- erect stems. Viola x contempta is the hybrid between Wild Pansy and Field Pansy, Viola arvensis.

Occasional on arable and waste ground with a scattered distribution but most frequent in the south-east and north of Ireland.
