Intermediate Evening-primrose
Oenothera x fallax (Oenothera biennis x glazioviana)

Flowering: June-September. Biennial. Garden escape. Introduced.

The unscented yellow flowers have 4 petals, 2-3cm wide and the sepals are striped red. A fertile hybrid that self-seeds freely, the seed capsules 2-3cm. Erect growth to 1.5m. Identified by Paul Green

Prefers open, well-drained soil, but can grow on heavier ground.

"Intermediate Evening-primrose is a stable derivative of Large-flowered Evening-primrose, O. glazioviana (female) and Common Evening-primrose, O. biennis (male). It is constant in appearance and can occur in the absence of the parents. Back-crosses can occur." (Stace 1995)
