Spring Snowflake
Leucojum vernum
Family: Amaryllidaceae

Flowering January-April. Bulbous perennial. Garden escape.

Nodding bell-shaped white flowers with green or yellow tips to tepals, resembling larger, taller Snowdrops. Usually one but occasionally two flowers on each stem. Pale seeds. The erect dark-green leaves are strap-like and glossy. Flower-stalks to 30cm tall, leaves to 25cm.

Occurs on damp soils and prefers partial shade. Rarely recorded as a garden escape as it can easily be confused with Summer Snowflake, Leucojum aestivum.
