Flowering June - July. Deciduous shrub. Native.

Partially fertile hybrid between Field-rose and Dog-rose.
Very similar to Dog-rose, R. canina but some young stems have strong reddish pigmentation. Usually produces well-formed fertile hips as well as some sterile hips. Hips sometimes with flatter disc and fused styles. Pedicels (flower stalks) often with some glandular hairs. Arching stems.

Found at woodland edges and in hedgerows but avoids very acidic soils. Infrequently recorded, mainly from SE Ireland. Identified by Paul Green
