Bulbous Celandine / Lesser Celandine
Ficaria verna subsp. verna (Ranunculus ficaria subsp. bulbilifer)
Grán arcáin
Family: Ranunculaceae

Flowering February-May. Perennial. Native.

Very similar to Lesser Celandine, Ficaria verna but often has less flowers with narrower petals and more/less shallow-lobed leaves. Produces little ripe seed and main reproduction is by small tubers that are formed in the leaf-axils.

Usually found on disturbed ground in woodland, by streams and rivers and in gardens. Frequent in much of Ireland but probably very under-recorded
