Flowering time: May-September. Aquatic perennial.

Dense spikes of tiny green/white flowers are held above the water level. The floating dark green leaves are oval to lanceolate with longitidual veins. Submerged grass-like modified leaf stalks.

Common throughout Ireland in slow-moving freshwater.
