A short, much-branched annual rush. Very variable. 3-25cm tall.
Branched flower heads. Green tepals with whitish edges. Smooth or very slightly ridged seeds. Slender leaves, mainly basal. Many erect or spreading stems. Fibrous roots.

Abundant on open, seasonally damp or wet, muddy ground.

Similar: Leafy Rush, J. foliosus. Broader lime-green leaves.
