Flat unbranched flower-heads with tough, unstalked, many-flowered spikelets. Narrow deep-green, shiny leaves, mainly basal, folded when young. Hairless. Strong tufted stems, 20-65cms.

Abundant. Roadsides, meadows, waste ground.
Widely sown on agricultural and amenity ground and lawns.
