Flowering April - June. Annual. Native.

Compact, egg-shaped flowerheads with 2-flowered silvery spikelets. Flowers with bent awns. Very narrow, hairless, bristle-like leaves with smooth sheaths and long, pointed ligules. Height 5-15cm.

Widespread and locally frequent on dry, bare acidic soils. Less frequent in central Ireland.
