Flowering June - September. Perennial. Native.

Short, purplish flowerheads with blunt glumes, long awns and yellowish anthers. Smaller than Meadow Foxtail with rooting stems clearly bent at base. Greyish-green leaves, smooth beneath. Creeping or sometimes floating growth.

Found in wet meadows, marshy ground or at the edge of shallow ponds throughout most of Ireland.
